Rajiv Gandhi International Airport witnessed one of the worst days on Friday with respect to cancellation of Kingfisher flights. The airport’s official website listed seven of the nine Kingfisher flights bound for various destinations from Shamshabad as cancelled. While no information or statement was released by Kingfisher Airlines, its officials said that passengers booked on the cancelled flights were informed well in advance, but they were reluctant to pay the additional charge for last minute bookings on other flights.
It was not easy for passengers to transfer to other flights. A travel agent who did not wish to be identified said that either there are no seats available on other airlines or the available seats cost a lot. Other airlines have put Kingfisher on ‘cash and carry’ status that is, they will not accommodate Kingfisher’s abandoned passengers unless the airline pays for their tickets.
Airport officials said that after Friday’s fiasco, the claims of Kingfisher that a normal flight schedule will resume soon, seem unlikely. Travel agents say that passengers have at last seen the light and very few are now booking Kingfisher flights. Among the flights cancelled on Friday were one to Bengaluru, one to Rajahmundry, one to Chennai, one to Vijayawada, one to Goa, one to Vizag and one to Pune
